Choosing the Right Material for your Blinds

Choosing your blinds may seem like a fairly straightforward task, but there are so many factors to take into consideration and materials to choose from that it’s worth taking your time and doing some research.

The first thing you will probably want to think about is how the blinds will look, which is why the materials can be so important. Many different factors will affect the choice you make, with everything from the decor to the function of the room playing a role.

We’ve put together some options to consider here with a short explanation of each:

Wooden Blinds

Wooden blinds can really tie the look of a room together, especially if the wood matches the furniture. If this option is a little bit out of your price range, then why not go for faux wood? You will get the same great look for just a fraction of the price. It’s not just the look of wooden blinds that might entice you – they’re also very durable and long-lasting, meaning they’re cost effective too. You only need to replace them when you fancy a change!

One thing you may want to consider with wooden blinds is whether they will be hung in a room with high levels of moisture. For example, in a bathroom you may find wooden blinds don’t hold up well to condensation and humid temperatures.

Fabric Blinds

Another material which may be perfect for you is fabric. Again, this material can complement a room if you have soft furnishings such as sofas, chairs and cushions – you might even want to match the texture and pattern of your blinds to any of these furnishings.

Choose stiffened polyester for roller blinds in the kitchen or your bathroom as they are easy to clean with a damp cloth and a quick wipe. This makes them a suitable and sensible option if you have children or pets, as any marks can just be wiped away with minimal fuss.

Bamboo Blinds

An option that’s a little more luxurious is bamboo – if you want your blinds to make a statement, and really impress then this is the style for you! Perhaps if the rest of the room is fairly understated and chic, these will stand out and look fantastic. You may find that you pay a premium for this high quality material, so ensure you have the money in your budget.

A massive benefit of blinds overall is that they are a lot more low-maintenance than curtains – they don’t need regular washing and can be easily cleaned and dusted. What’s more, they offer you complete control over how much sunlight you let into a room. You can even opt for cordless blinds if you have children and want to make your rooms as safe as possible.
